BIR Guidelines on Registration of Online Businesses

The BIR has issued Revenue Regulation No. 15-2024 which highlights the inclusion of online businesses in the mandatory registration of persons engaged in business in compliance with the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 (RA 11967).

Key highlights include:

  • Mandatory Registration: All online businesses, including those on social media platforms and e-commerce websites, must register with the BIR to comply with tax regulations.
  • Tax Compliance and Monitoring: The regulation mandates the issuance of electronic receipts or invoices, making it easier for businesses to stay compliant with tax obligations.
  • Penalties for Non-Compliance: Businesses that fail to register or adhere to the guidelines will face penalties and possible suspension of operations.

This regulation encourages compliance and supports the growing online economy in the Philippines.
